Animal Care Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please also submit a volunteer application at www.psswf.org/volunteer.

Our need for animal care volunteers changes depending on the time of year, and the days we have open to schedule can change also.

Animal care volunteers help feed our resident animals and some wildlife patients, provide enrichment, clean cages and facility, and potentially help with minor maintenance.

Feeding duties may include feeding meats (beef, wild game, chicken, fish, whole prey, etc.) to resident mammals and birds, feeding resident reptiles vegetables and worms, feeding meats to wild mammals and birds (including large raptors), feeding small rodents, bottle feeding baby squirrels, hand feeding baby birds, and potentially more.

Volunteers are not able to care for mountain lions, bears, deer, or any dangerous animals. Volunteers can only care for raccoons, coyotes, foxes, and bobcats if they have been vaccinated for rabies.

Even though feeding is the fun part, the VAST majority of animal care shifts involve cleaning cages inside and outside, cleaning food and water dishes, laundry, etc.
